Welcome Second Grade Families!

Welcome to a spectacular year in second grade! I am looking forward to getting to know each of our families throughout this year. It takes a village, and I am glad we are all a part of our village! Working together, we can make this a fabulous year!

Thank you for signing up for our classroom blog. Throughout the year I will use the blog to update you about what is happening in class. I will try to put in important events that are coming up and remind you about deadlines.

Parents are always asking me how they can help their child at home. Some general ideas are to ask specific questions about what they learned during the school day. If you are not sure what questions to ask, you can get some ideas from our homework when we send it home.  Also, read with your child DAILY! Remember that learning to read takes a lot of energy and practice. They need us to read to them in order to model what good reading sounds like. They also need to practice reading to someone else. A great tip is to have your child read to you while you are making dinner, read to a sibling, or even have them read to a stuffed animal. Taking turns reading a page each is also fun! Lastly, one of the best things you can do to help your child be successful in school is to talk about school with a positive attitude. When they hear us talk about good things, they focus on the good. This helps build self-confidence, courage to take risks, and enjoyment at school.

This is going to be an amazing year!
