December's Schedule and Math Photos

Can you believe that it is December already! This week on Thursday, December 3 is our Holiday Concert at the high school from 6:30-7:30 p.m.  Our class should meet in the cafeteria at the high school at 6:15.

During the week of December 14-18 the second grade will be creating edible Christmas trees using sugar cones, frosting, and decorations. We are in need of about 6-8 containers of white frosting as well as yummy treats to decorate the trees such as sprinkles and small candies. If you are will to send in some supplies for the project, please let me know. We will need the supplies by Monday, December 14th.

In math we are working on strategies for solving 2-digit addition and subtraction problems. Last week we learned the beginnings of Arrow Way. Yesterday we learned a short cut that makes Arrow Way a favorite for many students. Below you will find examples of both addition and subtraction problems.

Students use "benchmark numbers" to help them solve more difficult problems. The addition problem uses the mental math problem 27+60 to help solve 27+61 and 27+59. The subtraction example uses the mental math problem 72-50 to help solve 72-51 and 72-49. Using Arrow Way students learn how to solve more difficult problems using mental math! As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
