March is Reading Month!!!!

First of all, I would like to say a great, big THANK YOU for visiting with me at conferences last week! I love to be able to celebrate my students. When kids know that parents and teachers talk, it helps to reinforce the importance of education. Thank you for helping to set your child up for success!

Today in the homework folders there will be a note about our National Reading Month celebration. All month we will be in a school wide competition to promote reading. Each class will be earning points by reading at home and at school. Reading logs will be sent home on Fridays and due back the following Friday. Kids can earn one point for reading each night. Please note, this week's reading log will be coming home today, but it is still due this Friday.

Students can also earn the class 15 points for showing proof they have a library card. They can either bring it in to show me, or you can take a picture of them with it and send it to me. If they do not have a library card, they can also earn 10 points by filling out the paperwork to get one. On this week's homework, one option is to visit the local library. This would be a great opportunity to get a library card if your child does not already have one. On next week's homework it will ask your child to show proof that they have a library card. If your child shows proof this week, it can still count as part of next week's homework!

We get 15 points for having a guest reader visit our classroom. If you are interested in reading a picture book to our class, please email me so we can set up a time. I can help you pick out a book if you need suggestions.
