Happy first day of spring!
We are starting a new spelling unit this week. Last week I gave a whole unit assessment to each group. If a student showed mastery of all the spelling patterns in the unit, he or she will move on to the next unit. If not, the student will remain in the same unit.
So what does that mean? Some students will be moving on to new words, while others will continue to study the same words, with more intense instruction. I am working with each student at his or her developmental spelling level. In order to move from one level to another, mastery must be transferred from the weekly tests, to the cumulative test at the end and daily writing. It is important that when your child is studying the spelling words to learn the spelling pattern, not just memorize a list of words.
We will test on this first group of words next week. There will be no spelling words over Spring Break.
There will be no homework next week. The only homework over break is to read and have fun! When we come back from break, the homework in April will be to work on research for the second grade Saugatuck Project. More information will be coming home the week we come back. I will send home a step by step timeline of the project and directions for what is required on the Monday we return. I will also post all of the information on the project website. I will send the link to website on that Monday as well.
Have a fantastic first day of spring!
