We enjoyed fall by getting outside for science this week. We tried to engineer ways to protect our houses from landslides and also planted tulips.
Our garden is registered as an official Tulip Test Garden and is a part of the international science project called Journey North. We will connect with hundreds of other schools in the Northern Hemisphere. Next spring, we will share our local observations and track spring's progress. You can learn more at JourneyNorthTulips.
In math news...
We have started our place value unit. The kids are learning how to represent numbers in many different ways. I have included a photo with examples of some of these forms. Check the blog if you have math questions because I will often include examples that might help you.
Shhh...Don't tell the kids, but we have already started 3-digit addition and subtraction and they don't even realize it!
Other Classroom Business:
- There are no new spelling words this week. We will have a test on Friday for the -th and -ch digraph list.
- The Saugatuck Fire Dept. was here with the Smoke House for fire safety. We went through yesterday. Our homework is to check all our smoke detectors in the house to make sure they are not older than 10 years.
- School Store and Halloween t-shirt day on Friday.
- Thanks to everyone that has confirmed conference times. I look forward to meeting with you soon!
